Stone Crest Vineyard is in Frazeysburg, Ohio off of route 16 at 10310 Odell Rd. Some out of town visitors describe the location as the middle of nowhere, but if you’re from eastern Ohio, you’ll find that description funny because the winery is only about 3 miles off of Rout 16. It is about 20 miles west of Coshocton and 14 miles east of Newark.

The winery sits on a hill, overlooking the Appalachian foothills. The name of the winery is inspired by the land and its location. The surrounding land is very rocky and full of sandstone. So, a hill top location and rocky soil became Stone Crest Vineyard.

As of this writing, the winery is only open Fridays and Saturdays from 3:00pm to 7:00pm.

Wine Trails

Stone Crest Vineyard is a member of 2 wine trails. They are one of 6 wineries on The Three Rivers Wine Trail and one of 10 wineries on the Appalachian Wine Trail. The Three Rivers Wine Trail includes wineries in or just outside of Coshocton County.

The Appalachian Wine Trail covers the eastern part of Ohio’s Appalachian foothills from Patriot, Ohio in the south up to Baltic, Ohio in the north.

Owners Mike and Cheryl Barker planted Stone Crest’s first grapevines in 2005. Mike, a mechanical engineer, always dreamed of being a farmer. As he developed an appreciation for wine, he realized he could incorporate his dream of farming and affinity for wine into a vineyard.

When the grapevines were planted, the winery followed and opened in 2007. Cheryl’s dad taught Mike the basics of winemaking and Mike has continued to perfect his skills. He is now an award-winning vintner.

The winery has continued to expand its wine offerings since they opened, producing wines, fruit wines and the occasional cider.

Stone Crest also has both an oaked and un-oaked chardonnay. The oaked chardonnay is slightly buttery, while the unoaked is dry and crisp.

The tasting room is large, with a long tasting bar and lots of seating. Wine tastings are only $.25 each, so taste all their wines for only a few dollars.

There is also plenty of seating outside. A covered porch that runs the length of the building with tables and chairs. A landscaped patio area has tables and chairs next to a waterfall.

On many weekends, Stone Crest hosts special reservation only dinners with rotating menus. Sometimes they serve spaghetti and meatballs, other times they have prime rib and chicken.

On evenings when they aren’t serving special dinners, they sometimes have food trucks. Visitors can also bring their own food.
