Eagle Creek Vineyard is a winery located in downtown Warsaw, Kentucky at 106 East Main Street. Warsaw is a small town on the banks of the Ohio River. Cincinnati, Louisville, KY and Indianapolis are all a short distance from the winery.

Location and Hours

The tasting room is open Thursdays and Fridays from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturdays from 12:00pm to 8:00pm.

The Winery

Eagle Creek Vineyard was founded in 2019 by Dave and Beth Lynn. Dave and Beth traveled the world during Dave’s military career but returned home to Gallatin County, KY. They began making wine with kits and then decided to plant their own vines on their farm. At first, the Lynn’s only sold their wine direct to consumers by the bottle or at local farmers’ markets and festivals.

The first vines they planted were Niagara and Pink Catawba grapes, both varietals that are well suited to the growing conditions in Northern Kentucky.

Since their vines are young and limited in type, they purchase grapes and juice from other vineyards around the country to produce their wines. This practice is not unique to young or small vineyards though. In fact, California wineries source 90% of all the grapes or juice needed to produce their wines.

Winemaking at Eagle Creek is a family affair- David and Beth’s grown children are involved in the business as well, either in the tasting room or with sales and marketing.

Tasting Room

Eagle Creek Vineyard’s tasting room is located in a historic building in downtown Warsaw, away from the vineyard and winery. The owners decided to open a tasting room in town to attract more visitors and to be able to share their wine with more wine lovers. Part of the building is an antique shop, while the other half houses the tasting room. It’s a stately yet simple and welcoming space, with a fireplace, a wood paneled tasting bar and simple decor.

The Wine List

Eagle Creek’s 2020 wine releases consist of 8 different wines; 5 varieties of white and 3 reds. Bumblebee, a sweet wine made from Niagara grapes and Catawba have already sold out for the year.

On my visit, I was able to taste a wine they call Olive Branch. It’s made from diamond grapes, which were developed in New York state and are a cross between Concord and Iona grapes. The wine was sweet and subtle with pineapple and tropical flavors.

I also tasted their Belleair, which is made from Moscato grapes. This was my favorite wine, it was slightly sweet with peach flavors.

Eagle Creek makes a Malbec they call Yuma Sunset. It’s dry and fruity but mellow and very drinkable.

Their sweet red is called Addie Belle and is named after the owner’s grandmother. Apparently, Grandma Addie enjoyed a nightly glass of “medicine,” and this wine is a tribute to her. It’s made from Concord grapes and is sweet with defined flavors.

Wine Slushies

Like a lot of wineries these days, Eagle Creek serves different flavors of wine slushies. Unlike other wineries, though, theirs are completely homemade. When I visited, they had strawberry and limoncello wine slush, made with real strawberries, lemons, ice, sugar and wine, of course.

Owner Beth told me she tried various ready-made mixes and couldn’t find one that didn’t taste artificial, so she created her own recipes. Eagle Creek’s slushies taste like fresh fruit and wine, and don’t have the slight chemical after taste some other wine slushies do.

They will be featuring different, homemade flavors each week.

Events

In addition to local farmers’ markets and wine festivals, Eagle Creek Vineyard hosts wine and paint events and other private events at the tasting room. Visit their Facebook page to make sure you don’t miss any upcoming events.

Even though it is new to the wine world, Eagle Creek Vineyard produces quality wines and offers them in a welcoming setting. Owner Beth is an engaging and gracious host and a tribute to their brand. I look forward to visiting Eagle Creek again, for the company as much as the wine.
